Low carbon steel casting is one of the important investment casting production line in China.
Low carbon steel, also called mild steel, is a kind of steel with percentage of carbon(C)≤0.25%. Strength of low carbon steel is soft and hardness is low. So, low carbon steel is also named soft steel. Castings made from low carbon steel are also with same characteristics as the low carbon steel.
Low Carbon Steel Casting Characteristics
*Structure of low carbon steel castings are ferrite with small pearlite. The strength and hardness is low, but the plasticity and toughness are very good.
*Due to the low percentage of carbon(C), the carbon equivalent is low. Thus, the low carbon steel castings are good for welding with other steel castings. But due to the low percentage of carbon(C), the machining property of the low carbon steel castings are not good. Usually, we need to normalize the low carbon steel castings and make it easy for machining.

Low Carbon Steel Casting Production process
*Due to the characteristics of the low carbon steel, such materials are widely used in all production process, such as casting, profile machining, welding, etc.In our foundry, we use low carbon steel in investment casting, lost wax casting, water glass casting and silica sol casting processes.
*For components with structure and weight less than 1kgs, we usually use to cast in silica sol casting process. But for some bigger low carbon steel castings with special surface and dimensions requirements, we also suggest to use silica sol casting process to produce.
*For low carbon steel castings with structure and weight more than 1kg and no special requirements on cast surface, we usually choose water glass casting process to cast them.
Low Carbon Steel Casting Application
*Low carbon steel castings are used as components of building structures, containers components, agricultural equipment frames, etc.
*Low carbon steel castings are also case hardened to make bushes, chains, links, rollers and other components with high temperature and hardness requirements on surface only.
