Cast steel in China
Cast steel is the unitive name for all ferrous alloys used to make steel castings in China and around the world. Such cast steels are without eutectic reaction.
According to chemical components and applications, cast steels are divided into three categories.
First category-cast carbon steel
In carbon steel, carbon element takes the main percentage of the non ferrous alloys. Percentage of other alloy elments are less.
*Carbon steel with C(carbon) percentage <0.2% is called low carbon steel.
*Carbon steel with C(carbon) percentage between 0.2% - 0.5% is called mid carbon steel.
*Carbon steel with C(carbon) percentage between >0.5% is called high carbon steel.
With C(carbon) percentage increasing, strength of cast carbon steel forced and hardness increased. Cast carbon steels are with higher strength, good plasticity and toughness. Cost for carbon steel castings are also lower.
Carbon steels are widely applied to make heavy loading resistant components, such as stander of hot rolling mill, hydraulic press chassis, wheels and swing bolster for railway vehicles, etc.
Second category-cast alloy steel
Cast alloy steel contains elements of Mn(manganese), Cr(Chrome), Ni(nickel), Mo(molybdenum), Cu, etc. Total percentage of such alloys is less than 5%. Castings made in cast alloy steel are called alloy steel castings. Such steel castings are with good impact and toughness. They can also achieve a high mechanical properties by heat treating.
Application of cast alloy steel is better than cast carbon steel. Cast alloy steel can help to increase quality and lifetime of steel castings.Castings made in cast alloy steel are called alloy steel castings.
Both carbon steels and alloy steels are widely used in our investment casting process.
Third category- special steel
To meet requirements of certain environment and functions, some special steel grades are refined. One or two elements takes a high percentage inside the alloys. This will help to achive special functions.
Such as Mn13, Mn takes 11% - 14% of the elements. We call such material high Mn(manganese) steel. Mn(manganese) steel are with high impact and wear restistance properties. Such materials are widely used to make castings for mining industry and engineering industry. Steel with high percentages of Cr or Cr-Ni is called stainless steels. Stainless steel castings are widely used to make high temperature or corrosion resistance castings. Such as, valves, pumps, turbine shells, etc.
